Our History

Staehly Tree Farm was started in 1985 as a choose and cut Christmas tree farm in East Haddam. The farm was originally owned by the Diamond Family and dates back to the 1700s.

In 2014 Staehly Tree Farm added on a winery, with a primary focus on high-quality fruit (non-grape) wines.

The farm has grown and expanded since then with the addition of a 20-acre parcel in 2016 (Protz Family Farm) that has been planted as a pick your own and cider apple orchard.

Our Cidery

Our original orchards date back to the 1950s when Emil Staehly came to East Haddam from Colchester. A long-time sweet cider producer, his knowledge was passed to his son and grandson who both started Staehly Farm Winery

Kevin Staehly, a graduate of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, was spoiled with delicious ciders from across the Northwest and, returning home, saw an opportunity in recapturing his grandfather's trade and the heritage of the area in a New England style hard cider.

Our Future

The future is looking bright for Yankee Cider Company and Staehly Farm & Winery!

Our pick you own apple and cider apple orchard should be producing by 2023, but in the meantime our original orchard provides plenty of fruit for producing our ciders.

Renovations to the original barn at Protz Family Farm on Petticoat Lane, East Haddam, was completed in August 2019 and is the present home of Yankee Cider Co., Connecticut's first farm cidery tap room.
